Roche Janken grew up in Los Angeles, training in ballet nomadically and beginning her study of modern dance in high school. She attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and graduated with a BFA in Dance and a BA in General Studies. She immediately moved to New York, where she apprenticed with the Bill T Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company and the Stephen Petronio Company. She then had the pleasure of performing with Shen Wei Dance Arts and at the Metropolitan Opera in Orfeo ed Euricide, choreographed by Mark Morris. Six, snowy winters convinced her there was no place like California and after a summer bicycling and working beneath the redwoods on an organic vegetable farm, she is thrilled to be joining the faculty at SFYBA. She was also admitted to the yoga teacher training program at Laughing Lotus and looks forward to deepening her practice this fall. |
